Does my recording leave this device?
No. Your audio is decoded and transcribed in your browser. Only the speech model is downloaded.
Why is there a first-use download?
The speech model is needed to recognise words locally. Its size is shown before you start, and your browser keeps it for next time.
Can I transcribe a video?
Yes, when your browser can read its audio, as it can for most MP4, MOV and WebM files. If not, try an MP3 or WAV.
Which model should I choose?
Accurate (base) makes fewer mistakes. Faster (tiny) is smaller and quicker, which suits long files or older devices.
Will the transcript be perfect?
No. Noise, accents and overlapping voices cause mistakes. Pick the spoken language and check names and numbers.
